Sadaqah: charity given freely, from the heart
Sadaqah is voluntary giving — any amount, at any time, for the simple sake of doing good. It carries no threshold and no schedule; it is generosity in its purest form. For families in Gaza and across Palestine, Sadaqah becomes bread, water, medicine and shelter within days.
And there is a special form the tradition treasures above the rest: Sadaqah Jariyah, the “flowing” charity whose benefit — and reward — continues long after the gift is given.
Sadaqah and Zakat are not the same
Both are beloved forms of giving — but one is an obligation with rules, and the other is an open invitation.
Zakat
- Obligatory for eligible Muslims once wealth reaches nisab
- Fixed at 2.5% of qualifying wealth, due annually
- Must reach specific categories of recipients

Sadaqah Jariyah: the gift that keeps giving
When a person dies, their deeds end — except, the tradition teaches, ongoing charity, beneficial knowledge, and a righteous child who prays for them. These projects are built to keep flowing.

Water infrastructure is the classic Sadaqah Jariyah. A desalination or purification unit serves families every single day — and every safe glass drawn from it continues your charity long after the gift.
